My Imaginary Life 14
Jo is woken up by the sunlight shining through the bedroom window onto her face. She smiles and embraces the warmth for a while before actually getting out of bed. She hops out of bed and it is clear she’s in a pretty good mood. The house is still quiet cept for the faint sound of children playing outside. She walks out of the bedroom towards the living room and spots Shah still sound asleep on the sofa. She leaves him to his slumber and decides to make her exit. She grabs a pen and some paper next to the telephone, scribbles a note and leaves it on the coffee table near Shah. As she steps out and tries to close the front door as quietly as possible, a young girl from another adjacent apartment is staring at her. Jo successfully closes the front door of Shah’s apartment and as she takes her first barefoot step to her own front door, she notices the little girl playing along the corridor. Jo cheerfully smiles and greets her.
Jo: Good morning, Nicole!
Nic: Morning, Aunt Josie!
Jo: How many times have I told you not to call me Aunt? Makes me feel so old.
Nic: Sorry Aunt Josie.
Jo: Ugh. Nevermind.
Nic: Did you have sex?
Jo is stunned. Nic just smiles and looks earnestly up at Jo with puppydog eyes.
Jo: What? No. What are you talking about?
Nic: Aunt Josie had sex!
Jo: NO! I most certainly did not have sex! What am I saying? Don’t you have homework to do or something you precocious little brat!?
Nic laughs and then runs off back to her house, all the way shouting.
Nic: Aunt Josie had sex! Aunt Josie had sex!
Jo puts a hand to her forehead, sighs and then mutters under her breath.
Jo: Little monster!
Jo continues walking towards her door. As she passes by the lift landing, a man exits a lift and upon seeing Jo, suddenly stops in his tracks. Jo notices him and stops as well. She smiles politely and greets him.
Jo: Good morning.
The man doesn’t return her greeting but simply just stares at her. Jo realizes his gaze is lower down and she remembers she’s still wearing Shah’s oversized pyjamas. She looks down at her pyjamas and realizes they are somewhat translucent in direct sunlight. Jo’s face flushes red instantly and trying best to cover herself, sprints towards her apartment and rushes inside. The man just shakes his head and smiles to himself.
