Another anime post
Ok. I know that actually quite a number of the people who actually visit my blog don’t actually watch anime. But I just felt like talking about it because the anime in question was just really, really good, in my opinion anyway. I will, however, keep this review of sorts spoiler free.
The anime is called Mai-HiME (also known as My Hime) and the plot summary is as follows:
Tokiha Mai and her sickly younger brother, Takumi, have received a scholarship to attend the prestigious Fuuka Academy. On the way, the ferry they are travelling on becomes the site of a destructive battle between two girls wielding apparently supernatural powers. This is only the beginning of their troubles, as Mai learns that she herself possesses these powers - the powers of a HiME (Highly-advanced Materializing Equipment).

So the anime starts off rather conventionally for a 26-episode series with more humour, fan service, and the introduction of a new character every episode for the first 13 episodes or so. But the introductions are pretty good and the character development they get in three episodes is better than what some animes can do in an entire series. The second half of the series introduces whole new twists which just tears everything apart. It gets serious and I mean REALLY serious. The drama is heart wrenching and I even had tears rolling down my cheeks more than once.
The overall quality of Mai-HiME is also top notch. The story is nicely paced and well written with lots of good character work as well as a great plot with some fantastic twists. The art and animation is really beautiful but as always, the one thing which makes or breaks a good anime is the voice actors or seiy?, and the voice acting in this is simply superb! The emotions conveyed by the seiy? cast are unbelievably realistic. The joyous laughter, the raging anger, and especially the heart-wrenching bawling.
It seems like I’m just using lots of adjectives and adverbs but I’m not that good with words anyway and this is just what I feel about the series. In any case, whoever is reading this post SHOULD try to get a hold of the series and watch it. You know how to contact me.
