My Imaginary Life 07

Shah and Jeff are standing on the rooftop of a high rise building in the middle of the city. It’s night time and cold but there is no wind.

Shah: I won’t do it, Jeff!

Jeff: You have to! You’re the only one who can! You’re the only one who knows how to disarm a nuclear device!

Shah: What you’re asking of me… is.. impossible! How can I possibly betray the one person I love?

Jeff: But millions of lives hang in the balance! If you don’t do it, everything we’ve accomplished up to now will be for nought. Think of the dozens of men and women who sacrificed their lives so we can get to this point. Think of Sandra! Do you want all their deaths to be in vain? They were willing to do what it takes for the good of mankind! You just have to forget about Laura! So what if she’s the Prime Minister’s daughter!

Shah’s face is blank as he looks out at the scattered lights on the surrounding buildings. Tears begin falling down Shah’s cheeks.

Shah: I… I… this… is not happening. This is not happening. It’s not. It has to be a dream. Wake up! WAKE UP!

Jeff grabs Shah by the shoulders.

Jeff: Pull yourself together man! If you don’t remain sane, who will?

Shah turns to look at Jeff, a new found determination on his face.

Shah: Alright… alright… I know what I have to do.

Jeff is relieved. He smiles and give Shah a hug.

Jeff: Thank God. I knew I could count on…..

Jeff coughs up some blood suddenly.

Jeff: you…

Shah removes the knife from Jeff’s back and pushes him backwards. Jeff staggers but doesn’t fall over. Blood is gushing out of his back like a fountain. He looks up at Shah with a sad realization in his eyes.

Jeff: Why….?

Shah looks at Jeff sadly.

Shah: I can’t betray Laura. I love her too much.

Jeff: Don’t you see what she’s doing? She’s manipulating you!! Look at what you’ve done! You stabbed me, your best friend! Stabbed me in the back!

Jeff lunges at Shah but Shah raises his knife in defence and just stabs Jeff again in the chest. Blood gushes out of the wound, drenching Shah in blood from head to toe. Jeff slumps to the floor on his side, blood still pouring out both his chest and back.

Shah: I really liked you, Jeff. You were like a brother to me. But I won’t disarm the nuclear device. I promised Laura.

Shah falls to his knees in front of Jeff’s body and begins to sob. Everything suddenly goes dark. Credits begin to roll.

Shah: So what do you think?

Jo is speechless. Shah is ernest.

Shah: C’mon! How was it?

Jo: It was… different.

Shah: And?

Jo: Um.. bloody.

Shah: Wasn’t it though! Did the blood look real to you?

Jo: Um.. yeah but… there was so much.

Shah: But it has a greater impact, wouldn’t you say?

Jo: I guess…. um… Slice-of-life you say?

Shah: Yeah. That sometimes, love may conquer all but at the same time bring death and destruction to millions of people.

Jo: Uh-huh..

Uh, well, love DID actually conquer all. It just happened to bring death and destruction. And Jeff shouldn’t bleed so much (or splatter) unless he was stabbed in a renal artery.

But uh… very drama leh… Jeff is bleeding to death, but still go time to say so much.

Hmm. Maybe the blood was so real because Shah IS A MURDERER! He murdered a person on film and sells it for sick profits!

Hmm you’re right.. Love did conquer all. I’ll change it… thanks. Oh.. well, yeah… that’s what I was trying to get at… Shah’s an amateur filmmaker but he makes really cheesy/bad films. So far Shah’s been too cool, and I wanted to give him a quirk.
