My Imaginary Life 05

Jo wakes up with a start and then relaxes, realizing she’s still alive.

Jo: What a nightmare…

She’s in a rather comfortable bed and is covered with a comforter. She closes her eyes, smiles and snuggles in a bit to get cosy just as Shah walks into the room. He moves over to the bed and touches her forearm.

Shah: Josephine?

Jo’s eyes burst open and she lets out a small scream. Shah is caught completely off guard and takes a few steps back. Jo recoils slightly, pulling the comforter closer and tighter around her hoping it will protect her somehow.

Jo: How did you get in here?!

Shah: Um… I walked in?

Shah stands a couple of feet away from the bed and looks at her quizzically. Jo eyes Shah worriedly for a while and then realises this isn’t her bed. Or her bedroom. And that Shah is wearing different clothes. Jo’s eyes go wide and she throws off the comforter. She let’s out a sigh of relief that she’s still fully clothed.

Jo: What’s going on!?

Shah: You fainted and bumped your head slightly on the kitchen counter. Here, let me have a look.

Shah approaches the bed and sits down next to a clearly confused Jo. He leans closer and reaches for her face. She pulls back a little. Shah reassures her in his most soothing voice.

Shah: It’s alright. Relax.

Jo does. He places his right hand on the side of her head and gently presses a spot on her forehead with his thumb. Jo winces slightly at the pain and then realizes how close he is to her. He smells really good. She studies his face carefully.

Shah: Hmmm. It’s gone down a bit.

Shah examines the bump for a while before lowering his head till they’re both eye to eye, their faces inches apart.

Shah: It’ll go away in a few days.

He smiles at her, then pulls back to his sitting position at the side of the bed. Jo blushes without realizing it.

Hmm. That’s up to you. It’s why I’ve tried to leave out descriptions of their appearances.

Man. She seems kinda ditsy. She doesn’t even know she’s not in her own bed. Unless her bed and bedroom is exactly the same as Shah’s which would be… really… weird.

It would’ve been hiliarous if upon her waking and asking him where she was, he went…

“Don’t you recognise me, darling? It’s me, your husband!”

“Wha?”

Then Shah starts to look concerned. “Don’t you remember anything?” Jo starts getting worried.

I could go on, but I’ll just settle with Shah shouting “April’s Fools!”

Wow. I wish I had thought of that. That’s brilliant. Goes to show how uncreative or unimaginative of a writer I am.

About the bedroom, when she woke up, she didn’t really look around. And I’m making it such that their bedroom layouts are similar since they live in the same building. As in.. the ceiling and ceiling lights would look the same if she was in her bed or Shah’s. And when Shah walks in, she focuses on him only at first so doesn’t notice the rest of the room til a little later.

Anyway, this story of course could use a lot of work.
