Swensens… and that’s a chiobu!

Today, after work, I met up with my good friend Farhan. He had asked me to print something for him since the poor sap doesn’t have a printer and of course, I, being the generous guy that I am, helped him out. So anyway, I met up with him for dinner at Raffles Place at about 5.45pm.

Actually, we were supposed to meet at 5.15pm because earlier in the day when he called me, he originally told me to meet him at 5.45pm. I told him my work ends at 5pm and it’ll take me only minutes to get to raffles place. So he said ok, meet at 5.15pm then. But little did he know that it was all part of my master plan. I knew he’d be late and reach half hour late anyway so we would meet at 5.45pm afterall. Muahahahaha…

So where was I? Ah yes, I met Farhan for dinner at 5.45pm at Raffles Place. We decided to have dinner at the nearby Banquet (the 100% Halal foodcourt, for those of you who don’t know). So we were decided to leave our bags at a table right in the middle of the foodcourt and go look around at the food. Yeah, we were hoping for a SWAT team or bomb squad to descend upon our bags or something but nothing exciting like that usually happens, sadly.

So we were just looking around the place, there was beef noodles, prata, hand-made noodles, japanese food, a small section whose decor looked like seoul garden’s but wasn’t, etc. We were walking around commenting on the food and stuff and when we were almost completely round the place, I came across the western food stall. Looking at the menu on the wall, which was like in pictures on a grid, I noticed that it looked like swensen’s menu. So I remarked to Farhan, “Hey, that looks like Swensen’s Menu.. and holy.. that’s a bloody chio bu!” Or something to that effect.

And there she was, a vision of beauty behind the counter. I wondered if she had heard me say that. She smiled at us and raised her right hand slightly, palm outward, as if to beckon us to the counter to order. My heart skipped a beat. I think we smiled back but that’s all we did. Then we walked away. I was smitten. And I didn’t have the balls to even order from her, let alone strike up a conversation. Sigh…

So then Farhan and I had a conversation about why we don’t have the guts to go up to her and talk to her. Farhan said he wasn’t interested, the liar. And I reasoned that she probably gets hit on by all kinds of weirdos and I don’t want to be one of them. Farhan then said that by that logic, I might as well strike off all pretty girls then. What a sad existence. Or in Dhivehi: Kihaa Dhere Kame (pronounce vowels like japanese for full effect).

Ok, i know chiobu is not a girl’s favourite word and may seem slightly or really derogatory (depending on who you ask). So I guess I apologise for it. Sorry.

[...] We broke the fast at the Banquet at Raffles Place, although sadly there was no chio bu working the western food stall. The crispy noodles I had were passable at best, as they did not maintain their crispiness even for a few minutes. I’m beginning to think only Mak’s Place and Puncak have really good crispy noodles. I really felt like having some unhealthy fried chicken but alas, the western food stall was lacking in said delicacy. [...]
